When it comes to cleaning, one question that often arises is whether or not to use bleach. On the one hand, bleach is a powerful cleaning agent that can remove tough stains and disinfect surfaces. On the other hand, it can be harsh and potentially damaging to certain materials.

In this guide, we’ll explore the pros and cons of using bleach and provide tips for making the best decision for your cleaning needs. Whether you choose to use bleach or opt for a more natural alternative, we’ve got you covered.

To Bleach or Not to Bleach?

Understanding Bleach Is Crucial For Keeping White Clothing White!

At the beginning of Spring, I swapped out all my Winter clothes for Summer. After I had all my clothes swapped out, I went to grab a white t-shirt to wear for the day. I lift it up, look it over, and right smack dab in the middle of my stomach is a stain. So, I grab out another one, and another, and another. I’m not kidding. I checked 5 white t-shirts from last Summer and everyone of them is all stained up for this year!

So, how do you keep your Spring and Summer whites all white? I mean there’s nothing more iconic than a pair of white jean shorts on a beach or a boat. I tried to recreate that iconic look one time while I was on vacation. Very early in the week I donned white jeans, a navy shirt, and boat shoes. At the end of the day I probably looked less like Audrey Hepburn and more like Bert the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins. Thankfully, Laundry Service Long Island is here to help me achieve my Audrey Hepburn reality this year.

First things first, let’s embrace the bleach, people. Stop being freaked out by it and let’s learn how to use it. Go ahead and divide your laundry into three loads; whites, brights, and darks. Wash your darks first according to your detergent instructions. Now, pull out your bleach for the brights and the whites. Just remember, there’s two kinds of bleach.

clorox 2 and chlorine bleach

Want to keep those brights bright in addition to your whites white? You need to get Clorox 2 or any non-chlorine bleach. You can add it along with your detergent right into the drum along with your clothes. Don’t worry, it’s color safe and it will actually boost your colors! Turn up the heat to warm or hot water and come back to bright, beautiful, clean clothes.

Now, for your whites, use a regular chlorine bleach. Dispense the bleach into the bleach dispenser as directed on the bottle and then add your detergent into the drum along with your white clothes. Make sure to keep your water warm or hot and embrace your inner Audrey Hepburn!

If you have hard water your clothes may eventually pick up a yellow or reddish tint. Laundry Service Long Island will do that laundry for you to ensure that your whites are really white and not ivory.

One final word of warning; before starting over with a dark load, make sure to flush out your bleach dispenser with water first!!
